My trip to the USA was EPIC. I saw amazing art created in all my workshops and I made wonderful friends with people that I have admired from the other side of the planet. This trip was my reward after all the months of intense work for my book ( news about THAT later!).
I started out by flying into Arizona to meet my friend and 21 Secrets founder Connie Hozvicka. We went for a bike ride to see the Mesquite trees in full bloom and you know what?Jet lag never found me the whole trip. Her little dude is the most adorable baby flirt ever! Then I headed off to Idaho and the She Matters retreat at Christy Tomlinson’s House. I laughed from sun-up to midnight, created art I loved and made friends galore. Christy is as cute in real life as on her online classes and if I could have put her in my pocket and stolen her, I would have. Christy is coming Down Under to stay with me in October and of course I asked her to teach. I mentioned this on Facebook and swoosh! Her two workshops were instantly filled. My plan is to make sure her trip is so amazing that she comes back to stay with me each year, so if you were one of the many on our waiting list, we will try and make sure you have the first option next time. My next stop was the ‘Art is You’ art retreat held just outside Memphis. The week passed in a flash of colour and creativity!
I taught three workshops. The highlight of my week was the incredible artwork created in ‘Mermalicious’. I could fill 6 blog posts with pics of what was created in those 2 days! It was wonderful catching up with dear friends and making new ones! My last visit was to the incredible Donna Downey to teach at her Inspired studio – what an amazing space she has created! Oh, how I ‘freakin adore this woman! Donna took me ‘junking’ at the ‘Depot – a million miles of incredible flea market vendors… heaven… My final workshop for this trip was the biggest. I worked all my girls very hard! I had them create gorgeous seascapes so we could call in our mermaids to fill the pages. MAGIC ensued! At the very end of the three day class, we gathered in a circle and as page after page of beauty was shared, I made sure to thank my lucky stars that being a creative catalyst is my job. I am already planning my return trip to the USA for next year. It will be centered around my two workshops in Mexico which I am yearning for already. The emphasis in Viva Frida will be on creating beautiful, soulful faces. In Whimsical Oaxaca we will be creating all kinds of creatures and exploring the magic of color as the most powerful compositional element of all! Both workshops are filling quickly, so if you want to explore incredible Mexico, with a tight group of like-minded artists and create rich meaningful art with me, get your skates on! Viva Frida: April 11-18, 2015.
Whimsical Oaxaca April 18-25, 2015
