Peerless Love
A few years back I created a travel palette of Peerless watercolors and made a fun little video of in Paris of the watercolors in action.
To make the palette, I cut a little square from each color swatch and made a little folio with study, smooth water-colour paper and an acetate divider ( I have free templates on my store website that you can download to help create your own; click here ). The video was so popular that Peerless contacted me and asked me to create a signature set with my favorite colors.
Since I have rainbow-itis, my set had to have every color and it has been a best-seller with artists around the world! Fast forward a few years, and I felt the need to re-balance my colors and add a few new colors to my set. So, Chris got her color -science lab coat on and we rebalanced my Artist Edition Set and we concocted 5 of new colors! The NEW Colours
Three of the colours were specifically created for painting portraits:
Makeup is a warm neutral that can be used to create a wide range of flesh tones.
Contour is a warm brown that can be used for shading the face.
Nectar is a rich pinky red intended for creating luscious lips and cheeks.
The last two are some of my favourite hues:
Larkspur is a vibrant, deep teal blue. It is beautiful for eyes, and deep shadows in hair.
Payne’s grey is one of my most used colours, and for this edition I tinkered with the colour, just making it a touch more neutral. We called this new colour ‘Jane’s Grey’!
Of course you can use these colours to paint anything you like, not just people, but I wanted to share with you where the inspiration came from.
Peerless watercolors were created to hand-tint photographs in the early 1900’s. To make them, intensely concentrated watercolor is painted onto a special film, which is then dried and cut into sheets.
Because of this novel way of packing watercolor, you can carry a wide range of colour with you! To use them, just lift of a little of the colour off the swatch with a damp brush and just start painting.
These are the most vivid, transparent, and transportable color tools that I have ever had the pleasure of using. I even have them as a pre-requisite for most of my Retreats because they are so wonderful for creating when you are traveling.
